In Christ The Lord, Peter Blain presents a deeply expressive portrait capturing a moment of spiritual intensity and divine proclamation. The upward tilt of the head, the parted mouth, and the closed eyes suggest a powerful moment of prayer, suffering, or exaltation. Through energetic cross-hatching and layered line work, the artist constructs both physical presence and emotional depth, giving the beard, hair, and facial contours a sculptural quality.

Subtle washes of color soften the strong ink structure, creating tonal warmth across the face and garment while preserving the immediacy of the hand-drawn line. The interplay of bold strokes and delicate shading evokes both humanity and divinity—Christ portrayed not as distant iconography, but as a living, suffering, and transcendent figure.

Blain’s approach blends classical religious portraiture with modern expressive draftsmanship, allowing the viewer to feel the intensity of the moment. The work invites contemplation, emphasizing devotion, sacrifice, and spiritual awakening through the raw energy of line and gesture.
