"Eighty-Four and Fully Grown"

 

I’m in my eighties, watching the world
spin faster than I ever did.
Technology rules the day…
phones smarter than their owners,
AI no longer fiction.

Letters vanished.
Landlines silenced.
Even the news feels unsure of itself.

Politics shouts.
Truth blurs.

The tide comes in loud and restless.

Customs shift,
old certainties questioned.
Some changes I greet with a nod,
others with a furrowed brow.

​

At my age,
I’ve earned my caution.
But I’ve also learned this…

Hold fast to what is good.
Adapt where you can.
And no need to gloat
when time proves you right.
